Bob Dylan - Maggie's Farm

Song: Maggie’s Farm
Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Bringing It All Back Home (1965)

Have you seen the new Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown yet? If so, what did you think? Either way, Maggie’s Farm is classic Dylan - rebellious and electric. This was the song he played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival when he went electric and shocked the folk scene. It’s a protest song at its core, but the beauty of Dylan’s writing is that it can mean a little something different to everyone.

Fun fact: Dylan’s shift to electric music with Maggie’s Farm led to some fans booing him at Newport in 1965. But that moment is now legendary, marking his bold departure from pure folk into rock history. I like the line “Well, I try my best to be just like I am, but everybody wants you to be just like them.”
